Hampton Court Palace Flower Show 2008

Colombian Silletas

Feria de las Flores is a flower festival in Medellin, Colombia, first began to help inspire the large number of flower growers in and around the area.
The first festivities consisted of just the locals parading small arrangements through the downtown area but it has blossomed into a more than a week long event filled with concerts, parades, speeches, and sales.

Huge floral arrangements called Silletas that can be as large as 15 feet in
diameter are arranged to make intricate designs, sometimes of landscapes, figures, or famous paintings and images.

We 'Anglicised' the Colombian Silleta to create a version apt for Hampton, and most specially appropriate for the weather we were having! Visitors enjoyed having their photo taken next to the huge floral umbrella, which was patiently made over two days by staff at Writtle College.

The flowers for the 'Sillbrella' were sponsored by Ascolflores, using only Colombian carnations and chrysanthemum.
