Desert Oddity

An eccentric like Jatropha deserves a spot with some space around it, to show off its wonderfully unusual shape. Ugly - or beautiful? The Jatropha podagrica's tuber - which can be several centimetres high - produces thick leathery leaves and small, strong flowers. It is sometimes called " Buddha belly" or "Gout plant" due to this bulging trunk! The plant likes a sunny spot and can cope well with dry air.
