Dicksonia squarrosa
Name - Dicksonia squarrosa otherwise known as brown tree fern or Wheki
(Maori), is one of New Zealand's national tree ferns. The word Dicksonia is taken
from James Dickson, a Scottish botanist (1738-1822). Description
-Thick brownish-black trunk with a canopy of fronds. It is available from sizes
1ft/30cm to 6ft/180cm. Origin - New Zealand Family
- Dicksoniaceae Care Tips - As a general rule ferns thrive well
in a cool, bright lit area and in high humidity, with a minimum temperature of
10ºC/50ºF. They also need frequent watering and plenty of light, but
should be kept away from direct sunlight and draughts. Trivia
- Dicksonia in general, make ideal interior landscape plants in any big buildings
such as shopping centres. Their ability to absorb water through their trunks makes
them very adaptable.
