  • Name - Ficus is Latin for fig, pronounced FIY-cuss. This bonsai version of Ficus microcarpa or Ficus retusa is sometimes called pot-bellied fig for obvious reasons. The ginseng name is because the trunk and roots resemble the eastern herb, ginseng.
  • Description - It has a chunky twisted trunk and glossy leaves
  • Origin - Tropics and subtropics
  • Family - Moraceae (mulberry family)
  • Care Tips - Figs in general do not like change, so altered routines or conditions may result in them dropping all or some of their leaves. These will regrow once the plant is settled. They often lose leaves in winter but put on new growth either at once or in the spring - do not overwater in this dormant phase. Spray the trunk of Ficus ginseng frequently.
