  • Name - Tacca chantrieri, pronounced TA-ka CHAN-tree-ay-ree. It is also called 'bat plant' and 'devil's tongue'.
  • Description - The plant is long stemmed with a striking purplish brown flower bract at the top and broad leaves at the base. The flower has a large number of thread-like green bracts that look like whiskers. It can reach heights of 80-110cm (approx. 32 - 44 inches)
  • Origin - Tropical regions of Southeast Asia and West Africa
  • Family - Taccaceae
  • Varieties - So far there is only one variety, the Tacca chantrieri, as described above.
  • Care Tips - Frost tender, min. 18°C (64°F). Needs a very humid atmosphere, partial shade, peaty soil and regular watering. Water into the spaces between the leaves as well as the compost and give less water during winter. Feed regularly.
