 And  it’s not just the men! Whilst blokes  bought mainly roses, lilies and chrysanthemums, girls’ favourite purchases were also roses, lilies and then carnations. Regionally, Wales  showed the least imagination in Valentines flower purchasers of all, and Londoners  bought the most adventurous flowers. We  spent £8 million on roses last Valentines Day  – here’s some ideas on what other flowers you could get for your money: Amaryllis – trumpet-shaped flowers with velvety petals- sensually stunning!Orchids – elegant cymbidium, pretty phalaenopsis and tropical Vanda look great when  given as a single stem, wrapped exquisitely – you don’t have to spend the  earth!
 Tropical  blooms – ginger flowers, heliconias and  anthuriums are saucy, fun and unusual
 Hyacinths – gorgeously scented, these pretty flowers will lift any girls’ spirits
 Ranunculus – every girl likes peonies, these are like the miniature spring version and  come in even more colours!
 Lisianthus – like a vintage looking rose, they come in beautiful pastel shades that  everyone adores
