Mighty Meat Eater This
Dionaea muscipula - Venus fly trap, as is commonly known - has spiky, upturned
leaves that snap shut when touched. An insect-eating plant, it needs partial shade
and a humid atmosphere when grown indoors. Water it frequently with rain water
if possible, keeping the compost moist and the surrounding air humid. Use a weak
solution of liquid fertiliser if the plant growth is poor or if it is not feeding
on dead flies or tiny bits of meat. Clusters of tiny white flowers appear in the
summer. This a wonderful creation of mother nature that arouses a great deal of
