Aechmea fasciata NameAechmea fasciata or urn plant as its commonly known. Description A large, rosette-shaped plant with powdery white marking on its leaves and a striking flower head, in this case pink. Other bromeliads that have similar structures to it are Guzmania, Tillandsia cyanea and Vriesea. It blooms only once but the flower lasts around six months. Varieties There are about 150 species of aechmea in the wild, of which around four are grown as pot plants. Origin Brazil Family Bromeliaceae, Bromeliad family Care Tips Bromeliads are easy to care for and they are epiphytic (they grow on trees in the wild, but without taking sustenance from their hosts). This means they do well with good drainage, constant humidity and good air circulation. Water into the centre of the rosette and use rain, distilled or filtered water.
