Whirlwind
Limonium and helenium - that's all it takes to
make a striking display. The difference is the way the flowers are
grouped together. A loop of helenium stems are bound together, wrapping
around a strong upright bunch of brick-red helenium, then bursting
forth into a horizontal spray. Contrasts of textures are also here
in the satin cushion, the hand-carved wood table, the smooth pottery
vase. For something crunchier in texture, try crocosmia seedpods,
like rows of brown peas on a stalk, to wrap around the helenium.
The warm tan colour of the seedpods will pick up the red in the
flowerheads. [inset] The detail in the flowerheads can be seen clearly
- and the contrast between the delicate tiny sprays of limonium
and the simple daisy-like helenium.
