Regal Heavyweight

On the Philippines huge leaves hang from the trees on square stems. Suddenly, pink spheres descend, which open into long clusters of pink flowers. Medinilla magnifica is a genuinely regal tropical plant: difficult to keep but, like any diva, worth the effort. It likes light but not full sunlight; lots of water-misting as often as you like, but only regular watering and feeding during the growing period. The plant prefers soil to be dry rather than wet. The buds can easily cause the plant to overbalance so a heavy pot should be used to keep it steady.
